There are many ways to express yourself through the arts. Musicals are just one of the ways.
Need some inspiration? Here are some of the top musicals from the past 100 years.

  1. Hamilton: Hamilton is the newest play on this list but it’s also one of the most influential. Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton is about one of America’s most influential historical figures. Lin-Manuel Miranda combines Hamilton’s story with modern day styles of music, like rap.
  2. The Wizard of Oz: The Wizard of Oz, created in 1939, takes place in Kansas. When a tornado rips through the heroine, Dorothy's town she and her dog Toto are swept up in their house and carried to the land of Oz where they encounter many friends but also enemies.
  3. Wicked: Written in 1995, is about the two witches from The Wizard of Oz. Taking place long before Dorothy arrives in Oz, this musical tells the story of the witches and how they came to be.
  4. The Lion King: Written in 1994, The Lion King is about a family of lions who rule the animal kingdom and what happens when, one day the king’s brother wants control of the throne and he will stop at nothing to get it.
  5. Singin’ in the Rain: Written in 1951, Singin’ in the Rain was a hit. The story takes place in Hollywood and follows the lives of two silent film actors.
There are many more musicals that could go on the list but these are the Top 5.
