On Saturday, September 13, 2014, I attended the STEM Expo, a large Girl Scout event dedicated to the growing STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) field and the women within it! Girl Scouts and Girl Scout parents alike were both in awe at the amazing booths and newly added workshops this year! I was able to catch up with a few of these marvelous vendors!

DLR Tour:

Lime Green Giraffe Reporter: “How long have you been participating in the STEM Expo?”

John from DLR: “This is our first year at the STEM Expo.”

LGG Reporter: “What are these cool tables for?”

John: “It’s an interactive table. Schools can purchase these to work with students. Six students can work on the table at once, and it can hold up to 280 pounds of pressure on it. There are 100 different applications you can download to the table.”

LGG Reporter: “That’s amazing! I also see the walls are lined with different OtterBoxes.”

John: “We partnered with OtterBox to provide cases for school tablets. It helps avoid costly replacements of the tablets when they’re dropped by students.”

IEEE Atlanta Women in Engineering:

Lime Green Giraffe Reporter: “So how long have you been a part of the Stem Expo?”

IEEE: “Since the Stem Expo started.”

LGG Reporter: “Why do you think it’s important for girls to become a part of the STEM field?”

IEEE: “Girls need to know that the STEM field is an option for them!”

Zoo Atlanta:

Lime Green Giraffe Reporter: “What’s an important opportunity you feel teens should know about?”

Zoo Atlanta: “We have a volunteer program called Volunteens where you can work with the Zoo! It’s for teens 14 and up.”

Check out the Volunteen program at Zoo Atlanta here

Final Thought:

The STEM Expo is a fun experience for any Girl Scout, from Brownie to Ambassador. I recommend you join your fellow Girl Scouts and experience the 2015 STEM Expo and keep going for the many years after.
