Hello, My name is Riley B., and recently I had the privilege of meeting several amazing people at the ribbon cutting for Melissa Mitchell’s mural on the 17th Street Bridge in Atlanta. I was fortunate enough to meet Mitchell, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, and Girl Scouts CEO Jai Ferrell.
I arrived early, and I was able to see everyone setting up for the event to celebrate the mural created in partnership with Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta and the City of Atlanta. I witnessed the band warming up, photographers and news reporters capturing the bridge, and even got a little bit of time to interview Jai Ferrell herself. We chatted about her experience as a Girl Scout. Ferrell told me all about how she found herself through being a Girl Scout, discussed how she learned to lead, advocate for herself, advance her public speaking skills, and much more. She was a Girl Scout all the way until her senior year of high school, and now she is very proud to call herself our CEO!
My first impression of the mural was how inspiring it is, that so many people were able to come together and build something wonderful, especially within the given time frame!
During the event, cameras were EVERYWHERE I turned. I even had the chance to do my own interview, it was even published on YouTube! The whole purpose of the mural is to be part of Atlanta’s beautification efforts in honor of the FIFA World Cup which will be hosted here, so needless to say, everyone was thrilled at the arrival of tourists from all over the world!
